Question: What does a positive Babinski reflex indicate?

In adults or children over 2 years old, a positive Babinski sign happens when the big toe bends up and back to the top of the foot and the other toes fan out. This can mean that you may have an underlying nervous system or brain condition thats causing your reflexes to react abnormally.

What kind of reflex is displayed with an abnormal Babinski sign?

The abnormal plantar reflex, or Babinski reflex, is the elicitation of toe extension from the wrong receptive field, that is, the sole of the foot. Thus a noxious stimulus to the sole of the foot produces extension of the great toe instead of the normal flexion response.
