RCPRO P-51 Reno

RCPRO P-51 Reno Racing - Objectives

One-design "Spec" racing classes have proven to be very popular in R/C pylon racing as well as many other forms of racing, especially classes like the Daytona Prototypes used in automobile racing

The World Models P-51 Mustang 46 is a well proven airframe. It has been used extensively in RCPRO Warbird Racing, SWRA Racing, and other Warbird racing classes. Even though it has been over-powered in many cases, the airframe has proven to be plenty strong for racing. It is not an ultra-scale plane, but it has the classic P-51 lines. The pre-installed retracts function well and are easy to set up. The plane makes a very nice sport plane that is welcome at almost any flying field.

The P-51 has been used extensively in the Unlimited racing class at the Reno Air Races. Although they have been modified a lot, they still look like P-51 planes. The most common modification is replacement of the canopy with a smaller and sleeker canopy and turtle deck. Many different engine configurations have been used.

The RCPRO P-51 Reno Racing class will use The World Models P-51 Mustang 46 in essentially stock form. The wing and stabilizer may not be modified except for reinforcement. The canopy and rudder may be modified to model the Reno P-51 racers. The stock belly pan will be required, even for planes like Stiletto and Color Tile that had it removed. The World Models Dago Red may also be used.

Part of the excitement of the Reno Unlimited class is the wide variety of engines used. The RCPRO P-51 Reno Racing class will specify maximum displacements for two stroke and four stroke engines. But the engines will have no restrictions on modifications, exhaust systems, fuel used, and propellers. Local clubs may place restrictions on sound levels to keep the peace at their flying fields.

The displacements for RCPRO P-51 Reno Racing will allow the planes to be used in RCPRO Warbird Racing, but will limit the speeds to approximately the Silver class.
